Poems:

“10 Fingers”

I have 10 little fingers.

And they belong to me.

I can make them do things.

Would you like to see?

I can shut them tight

Or open them wide.

I can hold them in front of me

Or make them hide.

I can put them way up high

Or I can put them low.

I can put them in my lap

And hold them just so.

“Funny Feet”

Funny feet, funny feet.

Oh, I have such funny feet.

Left and right.

Back and forth.

They always know which way to go.

Writing”

“My Hands” class book- Each child makes a

skin-colored handprint on paper and dictates what their hand can do. Teacher writes response under handprint.

Math-

1.    Match number bones to bones with dot sets on them.

2.    Students measure each other using classroom items such as blocks.

Science:

1.    Listen to heartbeat using stethoscope.

2.    Examine real x-rays.

3.    Examine fingerprints using magnifying glass and classify as whorl, loop, or arch.

4.    Vocal chords demonstration- Fill balloon with air and slowly release air making balloon vibrate. Explain that when we release air from our lungs, like the balloon, the air passes over our vocal chords and make them vibrate. Our lips, mouths, and teeth help the vibrations form words.

5.    Healthy v.s. Unhealthy- Classify pictures as healthy or unhealthy (i.e. child eating candy, child eating an apple, running, stretching, watching T.V., sleeping)

6. Examine model skeleton.

7. Body Apron- I got my body apron from The Wright Group "Nose to Toes" Learning Kit, but you can make one using a child's smock or vest, laminated organ patterns, and velcro. The brain pattern can be attached to a headband.A volunteer wear the apron and students place organs in their correct locations.

Art:

1.    Human Skeleton using pasta pieces or Q-tips as bones.

2.    Body outline on butcher paper- Label body parts.

3.    Funny Feet- Trace, cut out, and decorate feet outline. Attach “Funny Feet” poem to bottom.

Music:

"The Parts of My Body Song"

The brain in my head goes think, think, think,

Think, think, think,

Think, think, think.

The brain in my head goes think, think, think,

All day long.

The heart in my body goes thump, thump, thump,

Thump, thump, thump,

Thump, thump, thump.

The heart in my body goes thump, thump, thump,

All day long.

The stomach in my body digests my food,

Digests my food,

Digests my food.

The stomach in my body digests my food,

All day long.

The lungs in my body breathe in and out,

In and out,

In and out.

The lungs in my body breathe in and out,

In and out,

In and out.

All day long.

The skin on my body goes feel, feel, feel,

Feel, feel, feel,

Feel, feel, feel.

The skin on my body goes feel, feel, feel.

All day long.

“My Body Can” (“Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)

My 2 hands go clap, clap, clap. (clap)

My 2 feet go stamp, stamp, stamp. (stamp)

My 2 feet go jump, jump, jump. (jump)

My body can turn around. (turn around)

And now my body can sit quietly down. (sit down)

“Where is Your Nose?” (“Where is Thumbkin?”)

Where is your nose? Where is your nose?

There it is. There it is.

Touch it with your finger. Touch it with your finger.

Just like me. Just like me.
