POEMS AND SONGS:

“My Wobbly Tooth”

Once I had a wobbly tooth
That wobbled to and fro,
Every time I ate my toast
I thought the tooth would go.
But then I ate a candy,
A sticky toffee roll,
Now where my wobbly tooth was
There's nothing but a hole!

“Brush Your Teeth”

("Row, Row, Row Your Boat” tune)

Brush, brush, brush your teeth,
At least two times a day.
Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning,
Fighting tooth decay.
Floss, floss,floss your teeth,
Every single day.
Gently, gently, gently, gently,

Whisking plaque away.
Rinse, rinse, rinse your teeth,
Every single day.
Swishing, swishing, swishing, swishing,
Fighting tooth decay.

“Brushing”

("Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" tune)

Here’s my toothpaste.

Here's my brush.

I won't hurry, I won't rush.
Working hard to keep teeth clean
Front and back and in between
When I brush for quite a while
I will have a happy smile.

"Are Your Teeth Clean and White?"

(“Do Your Ears Hang Low?

" tune)

Are your teeth clean and white?
Do you brush them every night?
Do you brush them in the morning?
Do you brush them right?
Do you brush them side to side?
Are your teeth clean and white?
Do you floss them good
To remove the bits of food?
Do you floss them every day?
Like you know you should?
Do you take good care of
The teeth that are there?
Do you floss them good?

The Swish Song”

(“Frere Jaques” tune)

Swish with fluoride,

Swish with fluoride,

Round and round,

round and round.

Fluoride makes your teeth strong,

Fluoride makes your teeth strong,

All year long!

All year long!

MATH:

1.    Graph favorite toothpaste flavor. (Plain, mint,

   bubblegum)

2.    Place laminated teeth in order from smallest-

   largest.

3.    Smiley Face Number Match- Create smiley

faces, using numerals for the noses, and

laminate. Children place the correct number of

teeth in each smiley face’s mouth according to

   the number on the nose.

4.    Toothbrush Number Match- Make large

toothbrushes, each with a different set of dots

on the handle. Create toothpaste patterns with

a number written on each. Children match

toothpaste to toothbrush with the correct

    number of dots.

5.   Toothpaste Tube Color Match: Make  several

large toothpaste tubes .  Write a color word

on each.  Cut out color rectangles. Children

place color rectangle on tube to match the color

    word written on it.

6.    Roll-a-Die Tooth Game- Small groups of children

take turns rolling a die and placing that many

teeth (mini marshmallows) on a mouth pattern.

7.    Graph the number of teeth students have lost in

   class.

8. Create color patterns using toothbrushes.

9. Add or subtract by adding or taking away marshmallow teeth from a laminated mouth.

SCIENCE:

1.Tooth Decay Demonstration: Drop an eggshell into clear cup of coca cola. Make predictions about what will happen to the egg.The next day take the eggshell out and ask children why they think the eggshell became soft and brown.

2. Have children practice flossing using ½ a white  styrofoam egg carton (row of teeth) and yarn (floss).

3. Happy and Sad Teeth- Label one paper bag with a happy tooth and another with a sad tooth.Children sort food magazine pictures into healthy and unhealthy groups and place in appropropiate bag.

4. Make toothpaste-Each child mixes 1 tablespoon salt,2 tablespoons baking soda, few drops of peppermint flavoring (found in spice aisle of grocery store),and small amount of water to make mixture into a paste.

ART:

1.    Paint with toothbrushes.

2.    Toothbrush-Fold 12 by 18 piece of construction

paper in half. Cut out notch to be toothbrush

handle. Glue white paper between folds (not by

handle). Cut fringe on white paper to create

bristles. Students write their names on the

    handle.

3. Happy Mouth-Draw eyes and nose on paper plate. Glue red construction paper mouth on to plate. Glue mini marshmallows on mouth to represent teeth.

4. Happy Tooth-  Trace tooth pattern on yellow paper and cut out. Make toothpaste paint by mixing white paint, mint-flavored toothpaste, and white glitter. Children dip a toothbrush in the paint and brush their tooth to make a shiny, mint flavored tooth. Encourage children to brush back and forth as they paint just like they brush their own teeth. Draw a smiley face on tooth when dry.
