Poems and Songs:
"Firefighters Standing in a Row"
(number) firefighters standing in a row.
Ding ding rings the bell,
Down the pole they go!
Jump on the firetruck,
Climb up the ladder,
Ready to aim the hose.
Whooosh! Out the fire goes!

“Firefighters”
Firefighters wear big red hats,
Climb up ladders to rescue cats,
Carry hoses to put out fires,
Drive big trucks with big black tires,
Race when they hear a fire alarm,
To help keep people safe from harm.
"I Am A Fireman"
("I'm A Little Teapot" tune)
I'm a fireman, dressed in red.
With my fire hat on my head.
I can drive the fire truck, fight fire too,
And help to make things safe for you.
"Firefighter Song"
("I'm a Little Teapot" tune)
I'm a little firefighter on the go.
Here is my helmet.
Here is my hose.
When I see a fire,
Hear me shout:
"Turn on the water
and put the fire out!"
Shhhhhhhh!
"The Firefighter"
This firefighter rings the bell. (thumb)
This firefighter hold the hose so well. (index)
This firefighter slides down the pole. (middle)
This firefighter chops a hole. (ring)
This firefighter climbs higher and higher. (pinky)
And all the firefighters put out the fire!
"The Matches Song"
("Mary Had A Little Lamb" tune)
Matches are for lots of things, lots of things, lots of things,
Matches are for lots of things that grown-up people do.
If I ever find a match, find a match, find a match,
If I ever find a match, I know just what to do.
I'll give it to a grown-up friend, grown-up friend, grown-up friend,
I'll give it to a grown-up friend, 'cause that's the thing to do.
"Never Play With Matches" ("Frere Jacques" tune)
Never, never play with matches.
If you do, if you do,
You might burn your fingers,
You might burn your fingers,
That won't do! That won't do!
Never, never play with matches.
If you do, if you do,
You might burn your clothes,
You might burn your clothes,
That won't do! That won't do!
"Stop, Drop, and Roll!"
("Farmer in the Dell" tune)
Stop, Drop, and Roll
Stop, Drop, and Roll
If your clothes should catch on fire,
Stop, Drop, and Roll!

Math:
1. Students put laminated firetrucks in numerical order according to the number written on each.
2. Students place the correct number of firefighters (people counters) on each firetruck according to the number written on it.

3. Students place spots (black paper circles) on each firehouse dalmation according to the number written on the dalmation.

Science:
1.What Does Fire Need? Experiment (under teacher supervision)
1. Point out that fire is dangerous, and that these experiments should be done only by an adult.
2. Ask the children, "What does fire need to burn?"
3. Light candle. ( I use a candle that already comes in a jar with a lid.)
4. Put baby food jar over the lit candle and observe what happens.
5. Why did fire go out? There is no oxygen.
2. Classify objects as hot or cold.
3. Practice “stop-drop-roll”.
4. Practice dialing 9-1-1 on play phone.

Art:
1. Fire fighter popsicle stick puppet- children trace handprint on red construction paper and cut out. Children cut out badge and glue on to hat. Next, add facial features to circles and glue hats on to them. Attach popsicle stick.

2. Firehouse dalmations- Children use fingerprints as spots.

3. Create “flame paintings” by marble painting with red, orange, and yellow paint.
4. Make firefighter hats using red construction paper.
