WRITING/PHONICS:

1. Journals- “What do you think the king’s men did with all Humpty Dumpty’s broken pieces?”

2. Little Miss Muffet Class Book-

“Little Miss/Mister (child’s name) sat on a tuffet

Eating her/his (food).

Along came a (creature)

Who sat down besides her/him

And scared Little Miss/Mister (child’s name) away.”

3. Patty Cake Letter Practice- Give each student a "patty cake" (Playdoh "cake") Say a letter and have students write the letter on the top of the cake using a popsicle stick.

4. Mary Had a Little Lamb Letter Matching- Match the uppercase letters on sheep patterns to lowercase letter wool bags.

5. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Letter Sequencing- Label star patterns with alphabet letters. Students put stars in alphabetical order.

6. Little Jack Horner Alphabet Pie- Cut a pie shaped slice out of a paper plate. Staple plate atop another paper plate. Program plum patterns with alphabet letters, laminate, and place inside plates. Children take turns removing a plum and identifying the letter written on it and the letter's sound.

7. Pease Porridge Pot Opposites- Program pot patterns and popsicle sticks with opposite words. (i.e- hot/cold, big/small, no/yes) Children take turns matching popicle sticks to pots.

Math:

1.    Hickory Dickory Dock Telling Time Game- Volunteer holds mouse puppet. Teacher holds up time card. Class recites rhyme “Hickory dickory dock, the mouse ran up the clock. The clock struck ____. The mouse ran down. Hickory dickory dock.” Volunteer goes up to model clock and sets time recited. Repeat using new volunteer and time card.

2.    Baa Baa Black Sheep Estimation- Estimate how many cottonballs will are needed to fill up a bag. Fill bag with cottonballs to discover answer.

3. Baa Baa Black Sheep Shearing Subtraction- Cover sheep pattern with cottonballs. Each child removes a number card from pile and "shears" that many cottonballs off the sheep

3.    Jack Be Nimble Measurement-

   Measure classroom items using candles.

   Put paper candles in order from shortest to

   tallest.

4.    Jack and Jill Estimation- How many cups of water will it take to fill a pail?

5.    Mary Had a Little Lamb Estimation- How many cottonballs are needed to cover a lamb pattern?

6.    Humpty Dumpty Number Sequencing- Put die cut eggs with numerals written on them in numerical order.

7.    Peas Porridge Hot Counting- Place the correct numbers of peas (green pompoms or dried peas) in each Styrofoam bowl according to the number written on it.

8.    Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe Graphing- Graph childrens’ shoes according to color.

    Program shoes with numerals written on them. Children draw the correct number of children on them.

9. Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe Classification- Students classify their shoes according to color using a graph.

 

 

                 

Science:

1.    Old Woman Who Lived in Shoe- Children use sense of touch to guess what is in a shoe.

2.    Jack and Jill- What items roll?

3.    Rub-a-Dub-Dub- Float and Sink Experiment

4.    Little Miss Muffet-

    a.Taste cottage cheese mixed with fruit.

    b. Make curds and whey. Mix lemon juice and milk in a clear container and let stand for 20 minutes. Have children observe what happens. The curds (clumps of white solid) should be at the bottom and the whey should be at the top.

5. Little Boy Blue- Make haystack snacks. Melt 1 package of butterscotch chips in microwave with 1 cup of water in microwave. Pour over 1 package of chow mein noodles and mix. Let cool. 

6. Itsy Bitsey Spider- Create spider snacks. Use plastic knife to spread peanut butter on 1 Ritz cracker. Place 8 pretzel sticks around edge of cracker to represent spider legs. Place 2nd cracker atop 1st. Place 2 dabs of peanut butter atop 2nd cracker and stick a raisin on each dab.

7.    Humpty Dumpty-

A.    Examine what is inside an egg.

B. Make scrambled eggs.

                                        

 

 

 

 

Art:

1.    Humpty Dumpty- Children cut out pattern and add wiggly eyes, felt, buttons, etc. for details.

 

2.    Jack and Jill paper bag puppets

3.    Baa Baa Black Sheep- Cut paper plate in half and glue on cottonballs.Cut out black sheep face pattern and leg patterns and and glue on to sheep. Add wiggly eyes.

4.    Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Wand- Color and cut out star. Outline with glitter. Glue on to popsicle stick. Add ribbon if desired.

5.    Hey Diddle Diddle-

   A.Mobile- Color and cut out moon, spoon, dish, cat, and dog patterns. Attach to hanger using yarn.

   B. Cow Jumping Over the Moon- Paint paperplate gray and sprinkle on silver glitter. Color a cow pattern and glue on to plate.

6. Jack Be Nimble Candlestick- Paint a toilet paper tube. Add paper flame.

7. There Was an Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe- Punch holes in a shoe pattern using a hole puncher. Children lace shoes with yarn.

8. Little Boy Blue's Horn-Punch a few holes in a paper towel tube. Students decorate tube with markers or paint.Students can toot horn.
