 POEMS AND SONGS:

Washington's Birthday Song

(“The Muffin Man” tune)

by Jean Warren

Do you know whose birthday's today,

Birthday's today, birthday today?

Do you know whose birthday's today,

It's George Washington's.

He was America's first President,

First President, first President.

He was America's first President,

Let's honor him today.

Lincoln's Birthday Song

(“The Muffin Man” tune)

by Jean Warren

Do you know whose birthday's today,

Birthday's today, birthday today?

Do you know whose birthday's today,

It's Abraham Lincoln's.

He wanted all people to be free,

To be free, to be free.

He wanted all people to be free,

Let's honor him today.

Whose Fine Face?

(“London Bridge” tune)

Adapted from Mailbox Magazine idea

Whose fine face is on the penny,

On the penny, on the penny?

Whose fine face is on the penny?

Abraham Lincoln's.

Whose fine face is on the quarter,

on the quarter, on the quarter?

Whose fine face is on the quarter?

George Washington's.

*I created a large posterboard penny and quarter. In the middle of Lincoln’s and Washington’s silhouettes, I cut out a hole. Children hold coin costumes and press their face through the holes while we recite the poem.
